Take a trip with us to visit the trail of the Hackett family

On my family web page I am of course interested in sharing the Hackett Clan Family History as well as the history of the Hackett Clan Branches.

I would love to hear from you and receive any information from you that you would like to share, or just to talk to you!  I have met a lot of lovely and wonderful people on my travel, and quess what I have never met any of them.  Someday it will come.

I also think it is important to know the areas from where the Hacketts lived and what it is like where they came from.

I have added two of the areas of the Hackett's history in England

             the  W. Midlands,

     and the "Black County".

On the favorite links page there is a link to a "dictionary page"  where you can find this information, as well as other family sir names that can be searched, If you have an English Heritage you can search this site for just about any of the areas of England that you would like to know about, nice site to give you insite to the areas of England and the changes through the time.  Sometimes knowing the history of the area that your family is from will aid you in your travel of the past.....

Our journey will start briefly in England, the W. Midland, W. Bromwich and Staffordshire area,  and then it will take us to the Port of NYC, to the mountainside of PA, and Elmira, Chemung Cty. NY to name just a quick timeline of their heritage.

Just What Does Hackett Mean!

The Hackett Coat of Arms should have 3 vertical Hake Fish with 3 green shamrocks on top.   The Hackett motto is "Fortitude and Prudence"

What does Hackett mean?  sic, english, "Man with an axe".  Spelled Hacket circa 1000AD.  Also an a.k.a of M'Gaoghey, County tyrone Ireland.

The Hackett family name is one which arrived with the Norman Invasions in the latter half of the 12th century in Ireland. A Norman family name, Hackett is taken from "Haket" a common personal name of Norman origins.

The name is soon found in several counties.  In Waterford and Tipperary they are cited as a chief family of English descent.

The place names of Hacketstown, Hackettsland, and BallyHackett are numerous, being found in Carlow, Derry, Dublin, Antrim, Cork and Waterford.

Castle Hacket is to be found in Co. Galway in the barony of Clare near Tuam and served as a set of power for the family in the early days.

In the 17th century Hackett was a principal name of Tipperary and found in Westmeath as well.  Despite the widespread areas the name has been found in the earlier days, the 1890 birth index shows the name only in Tyrone, Dublin and Kilkenny.

The Irish Book of Arms is given Hackett of Riverton Co, Tipperary. descended from Robert Hackett of English, Kings County.

Other spellings:       MacHackett,

                                             Hakett,

                                                           Haket

Hackett is an Irish, English and Swedish surname.

I have tried in my web page to add a little bit of the history of the Hacketts, and especially of the area that they are from.  Of course I have only put a couple here but there are plenty of links from this information to other sites to visit your place in England.

I have chosen the "W. Midlands"  and the "Black County" because many of my Hackett relatives came from that area of England.  The Twiggers who would be on my ggrandmother's side is mostly from Staffordshire and the Tipton are of England.  I hope you enjoy the information as much as I did.
